Shady Bend along the Hazel River

This was created during one of our Tuesday morning paint outs and touched up in the studio. It was one of those fall days that starts out chilly but warms in the afternoon so that standing in the sun feels wonderful. My eye kept being pulled to the intriguing rock outcropping in the shadowy bend of the river. What is it about a large mass of rock that draws us in? Near the rock, the branches of a sycamore tree show their white bark in bright relief against the shadowy pines.
